McGroarty Arts Center has recently been awarded the Weingart Foundation and Los Angeles County Arts Commission grants in support of its core capacity. Essentially, this means that all of the behind the scene efforts that go into evaluating the amazing classes being offered each session, the consistent outreach and connection with the surrounding communities, and the strengthening of the organization through its team is now being supported and sustained by these generous sources.
This is the first grant McGroarty Arts Center has received from the Weingart Foundation. The award of $15,000 will assist in McGroarty's three- year strategic plan to strengthen the core of the organization by supporting long-term goals for growth. The Weingart Foundation makes grants to assist organizations that work in the areas of health, human services, and education. The Foundation also funds activities that benefit the general community and improve their quality of life. McGroarty Arts Center continually provides greater access to the arts for those who are economically disadvantaged and underserved.
The Los Angeles County Arts Commission has supported McGroarty for a number of years, funding the Summer Concert programs and a variety of other events and activities. Through the Organizational Grant Program, the Los Angeles County Arts Commission awarded McGroarty $18,300 which will assist in the mission and goals of the Center to support staffing, and many other key priorities and objectives.
“There is no doubt that this kind of funding strengthens the Center’s foundation for the families and surrounding communities that we serve. Finding support for our mission and efforts to continue to provide quality classes is a priority for McGroarty Arts Center. We appreciate the Weingart Foundation and Los Angeles County Arts Commission for their contribution,” says Monica Hicks, Communications Associate. The mission of McGroarty Arts Center is to provide access to the arts through in-depth arts instruction and experiences. Affordable or free multidisciplinary arts instruction is offered to at-risk youth, children, and families, as are performances, exhibitions, and events that engage the greater public. The Center is a venue for artists to present their work, while preserving the legacy of John Steven McGroarty and his historic home.
McGroarty’s highly-qualified instructors and staff create an enriching experience for each student that results in works of art as unique as the individual who created them; many with degrees in higher education specializing in their craft and a commitment to the mission of McGroarty Arts Center. The Center offers a wide array of performing and visual art classes including piano, guitar, violin, ceramics, drawing, painting, dance, and theater. Over 360 courses are offered throughout the year. McGroarty Arts Center is a non-profit organization committed to providing affordable arts instruction. Classes start at just $45 for 8 weeks of instruction. Scholarships are available.
