Creative Metalwork for Kids
(Ages 9+.  Parent required to attend.)


 

About this course:  It's art from metal.  Learn how to safely work with a tiny jeweler’s saw to cut different colors of sheet metal, drill holes with a flex shaft (a true student favorite), and then join different metals by hammering hand made rivets.  You will complete your own piece of art in this class.  Students who have already taken this class may take it again and choose their own project.  


Required supplies:  Included.

Fused Glass Workshop

About this course:  Come and learn how to create your own fused glass art! Learn from local glass artist, Margee Luper. This weekend adventure will expand your imagination and skills in cutting, layering, stacking, embellishing and fusing your glass project. You will complete a minimum of 4 projects.

About this course: Have you ever wanted to stop and capture a dreamy night? A city skyline, a store mannequin, or a deserted gas station? This dynamic EIGHT-SESSION class will enable students to capture the magic and mystery of the night by meeting at various exciting locations around Los Angeles. All cameras from DSLR's to point and shoot are welcome, but students must have previous experience with their cameras.  All levels.

Figurative Sculpture

About this course:  This class meets once a week for 8 weeks, and is limited to 6 students.  Participants will receive instruction on how to start any sculpture of the human figure. Learn how to construct an armature and build a figurative sculpture in clay or medium of student’s choice. The goal of this workshop is to inspire confidence in approaching figurative art in the round.

About this course:  This class meets once a week for 8 weeks.  Have you ever wanted to learn how to do stained glass? Or do you want to improve your existing skills in a fun, encouraging atmosphere? Join our fun Stained Glass class and take your skills to a new level. You'll learn not only from our two expert instructors, but also from fellow students, as you see them build their projects over time. 

Joyce and Earl have been in business for over 40 years.  They have owned several stained glass stores since 1984, and have ample supplies available for supplying our students’ needs.

Beginning Oil Painting and Color Theory

About this course:  This class is for the oil painting student who wants to not only hone their painting skills, but also learn about color and its different attributes.  Using a simple still life setup will also learn how to paint the illusion of glass, metals, and wood while honing the fundamentals.   You will come out of this class with a much deeper understanding of how color works and how light on a subject works, whether you are indoors or out, using the value structure for a strong foundation and the road map to painting a successful piece of art.

Watercolor: Basics for All Levels

Learn to use various water-based paints with drawing and mark-making materials.  By mixing media, you can get beautiful effects such as strong accents over transparent backgrounds.   Subject matter demonstrated may include floral, fashion, abstract, cityscape and animals.

About this course: This class meets once a week for 8 weeks. Work includes hand-building, potter's wheel and sculptural techniques. Bring your own tools or purchase from office.  Each student receives 5,000 cubic inches of kiln space. Additional kiln space available at 5 cents a cubic inch.

Required supplies: Clay and tools are not included with tuition. Clay is available for $10 on the first day of class. Required toolkit is $15 and available for purchase in the office.
